Princess of the People (1961-1997)

I'd like to be a queen in people's hearts but I don't see myself being queen of this country. ~ Princess Diana, Princess of Wales

GOODBYE ENGLAND'S ROSE

Goodbye England's rose.
May you ever grow in our hearts.
You were the grace that placed itself
where lives were torn apart.
You called out to our country,
and you whispered to those in pain.
Now you belong to heaven,
and the stars spell out your name.

And it seems to me you lived your life
like a candle in the wind,
never fading with the sunset when the rain set in.
And your footsteps will always fall here,
along England's greenest hills;
Your candle's burned out long before
your legend ever will.

Loveliness we've lost,
these empty days without your smile.
This torch we'll always carry
for our nation's golden child.
And even though we try,
the truth brings us to tears;
All our words cannot express
the joy you brought us through the years.

Goodbye England's rose,
from a country lost without your soul,
Who'll miss the wings of your compassion
more than you'll ever know.

~This song's original title was Candle in the Wind. It was originally written by Elton John as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. He rewrote it for Princess Diana.

Diana's life with Prince Charles started out as a fairy tale but ended in divorce. She died on a Sunday in a car crash in Paris, France, at age 36.

It is hard for me to understand why Charles married Diana when he was still in love with Camila. As a princess, Diana had everything she could ever want or need, but she didnt have the love of her Prince.

Being a princess isn't all it's cracked up to be. ~ Princess Diana

There were three of us in the marriage. It got very crowded. ~ Princess Diana

I think the biggest disease the world suffers from in this day and age is the disease of people feeling unloved. ~ Princess Diana

Diana was originally known as the Fashion Princess. She was criticized by the Royal Family from the start. Being a princess didnt come with instructions, but she found her role in the world.

Instead of wallowing in self-pity and contrary to the beliefs of the royal family, Diana reached out to the common people.

She was not afraid to hug people with AIDS and fighting for the cure of AIDS was one of her priorities. But Diana also fought for the abolition of landmines that injured or brought  death to many of the people in her country. If Diana had joined forces with Mother Teresa, what a powerful team they would have made.

Diana is often seen hugging the common people. She is said to have saved her people's lives, but she acknowledges that it was her people who saved hers from her most difficult times. Diana was a true princess, a true humanitarian, a fine example of the kind of woman that all women should strive to be, and her memory will forever reign in our hearts.

Everyone needs to be valued. Everyone has the potential to give something back. ~Princess Diana

Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you. ~ Princess Diana
